Hanau as a caesura – What has the racist attack changed?

After 19 February 2020, mourning, compassion and horror set in. Nevertheless, the racist attack in Hanau, in which nine people – Ferhat Unvar, Hamza Kurtović, Said Nesar Hashemi, Vili-Viorel Păun, Mercedes Kierpacz, Kaloyan Velkov, Fatih Saraçoğlu, Sedat Gürbüz, Gökhan Gültekin – were murdered, does not affect everyone equally. For a part of society, it marks a caesura.
How afraid are those who thought at the time: “That could have been us”? And what about the often fragile trust of migrant communities in the authorities?
