Hanau as a caesura – What has the racist attack changed?
10.09.2022, 16:00
After 19 February 2020, mourning, compassion and horror set in. Nevertheless, the racist attack in Hanau, in which nine people – Ferhat Unvar, Hamza Kurtović, Said Nesar Hashemi, Vili-Viorel Păun, Mercedes Kierpacz, Kaloyan Velkov, Fatih Saraçoğlu, Sedat Gürbüz, Gökhan Gültekin – were murdered, does not affect everyone equally. For a part of society, it marks a caesura.
How afraid are those who thought at the time: “That could have been us”? And what about the often fragile trust of migrant communities in the authorities?
With:
Saba-Nur Cheema, political scientist, anti-racism trainer
Özlem Gezer, Spiegel journalist, co-author of the “Hanau Protocols”.
Dr. Cihan Sinanoğlu, sociologist, head of the National Racism Monitor.
Moderation: Philine Sauvageot, Südwestrundfunk
The event takes place in the context of the exhibition Three Doors – Forensic Architecture/Forensis, Initiative 19. Februar Hanau, Initiative in Gedenken an Oury Jalloh and is part of the Forum kollektiver Wahrheitsfindung.
